JCM Company Background
JCM is one of the UK’s leading experts in the design, manufacture and provision of seating and other posture support products for children with disabilities, particularly cerebral palsy (download cerebral palsy information sheet below).
The company began in Spalding, Lincolnshire, UK in 1992. Today JCM has a large manufacturing site in Peterborough, it employs 45 and has distribution in 16 countries worldwide – and it remains privately owned.
JCM is best-known for its Triton range of postural support seating which suits all ages from six month old baby to fully-grown adult. The company also offers other specialist products to assist children with their posture, symmetry and comfort throughout all aspects of their day. From the Sunbeam supportive high chair for infants, through home, travel, school, recreation and rest, to its Moonlite sleep system; the JCM slogan is ‘24 hour postural care’.
JCM has a team of 10 highly trained sales staff who work closely with occupational therapists and physiotherapists to assess each child’s individual needs. JCM is then able to build a seat or other posture support product for each child so that their body remains symmetrical as they grow and develop.
Mark Underwood is the Managing Director and co-founder of JCM. In his early 20’s Mark saw the opportunity to greatly improve the lives of children with physical disabilities. There was a niche in the market and children with very specific needs were poorly served.
The norm at that time was to provide ‘reactive’ care after the disability had manifested, rather than being proactive with early support. JCM hold the belief that early intervention and postural management at an early age is the best practice for a child’s healthcare, ensuring correct skeletal and psychological development.
In addition to MD Mark, key senior managers and board directors at JCM are Wayne Killick (Operations Director) and John Barklamb (UK Sales Manager).
